first_imgStory Links The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s and women’s tennis teams head to Mayfair Club (Toronto East) for the 2019 OUA championships, October 11-13, hosted by York University.The Blues men will be vying for their first OUA banner since 2015 having claimed the silver medal for the past three seasons. Toronto enters the championship as the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of the No. 4 McMaster Marauders and No. 5 York Lions in semifinal action on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.Two-time OUA all-star Sasha Obucina is the Varsity Blues men’s team No. 1 player. He will look to 2018 OUA all-star Brett Stinson and fellow veteran Nathan Wong at the No. 2 and 3 positions to help lead a young Blues squad this weekend.First-year standout Rassam Yazdi rounds out Toronto’s top four. The engineering major from Ottawa went 4-1 in singles action and 3-1 in doubles play this season.Toronto’s women will be fighting for their first provincial title since 2013 this weekend. The Blues are working their way up the podium, having earned the bronze medal in 2017 and silver medal in 2018. U of T is the No. 2 seeded squad heading into this weekend and will battle the winner of the No. 3 Marauders and No. 6 Brock Badgers in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.2017 OUA rookie of the year and all-star Mara Stroe is set to lead U of T in the No. 1 spot. Stroe went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play this season.Fellow third-year veteran Samara Qaedizadeh, sophomore Adelaida Allakhverdiyeva and rookie Pia Jhattu will also play in the top of Toronto’s order.
